Job Summary: Reporting to the Operations Department, the Buyer is responsible for the purchase of raw materials, equipment, products, supplies, and any other goods or services that benefit the organization. Buyers must negotiate the best terms of price, quality, and lead time to maximize the positive impact on the company.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze price proposals and other data/information to determine reasonable prices
  • Confer with staff, users and suppliers to discuss defective or unacceptable products and services to determine corrective actions
  • Follow up with various internal stakeholders to prevent or identify supply, quality or logistics problems
  • Ensure the supply and availability of raw materials, products, equipments, plant supplies, components and other items when required
  • Maintain inventory levels to achieve efficient turnover rates
  • Analyze supplier supply trends and internal demand
  • Analyze purchasing history
  • Communicate price increases to management
  • Evaluate and monitor contract performance to ensure compliance with contractual obligations to determine the need for corrective action
  • Maintain and review computerized or handwritten records of purchased items, costs, deliveries, inventory performance
  • Negotiate, renegotiate and administer contracts with suppliers, vendors and other representatives
  • Confirm delivery dates in accordance with production planning
  • Prepare purchase orders, solicit bids and review requisitions for products and services
  • Purchase high quality merchandise at the lowest possible price and in the required quantities
  • Research and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, disposition, reliability, production and distribution, supplier reputation and employment record
  • Manage customs brokers
  • Conduct research of shipping and import agents
  • Enter data into administrative systems (BC/ERP)
  • Perform all other related tasks


  • Bachelor’s degree or DEC in strategic supply management, business, commerce, economics, industrial
    engineering or other related field
  • 2 to 5 years of successful similar experience
  • Fluency in English and French, both oral and written
  • Computer skills (MS Office and relational databases, as well as BC/ERP systems)
  • Knowledge of supply chain processes
  • Experience with data mining, analysis and financial reporting
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Team player, collaborative and courteous
  • Resourcefulness, problem solving skills
  • Ability to multitask with multiple projects / initiatives / tools / files / deadlines
  • Analytical mindset with strong business sense
  • Thoroughness and attention to details

  • Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC) certificate in procurement
  • Knowledge of BC/ERP systems
  • Good knowledge of gym equipment and exercises
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to have a motor vehicle if required
